So, now the question is where exactly does it snow in Korea and what are some of  the best places to see snow? To understand why Korea is known as the ‘land of sparkling streams and high mountains,’ explore the country’s natural beauty covered in snow at these exciting winter destinations.

When it snows in Korea, there are many places in Seoul and beyond where you can enjoy winter activities, capture snowy backdrops for your travel photos, and have fun playing in the snow.

Aurora lights

Iceland is one of the most spectacular places in the world to witness the aurora borealis (or northern lights). Here, on the southern edge of the Arctic Circle at 65’ N,  you can witness the aurora almost every night — and at warmer temperatures if compared to many other viewing locations around the world.

The best time to see the Northern Lights in Iceland is from September to March, when the nights are long (during the winter solstice, darkness can last for about 19 hours). If you’re traveling to Iceland in the winter, avoid planning a northern lights hunt during a full moon, as the moonlight can overpower the display. Plan your trip five days before the time of the new moon, and you will have a very dark week ahead that will be perfect for viewing the lights.

The entire country eagerly waits for the first cherry (sakura) trees to bloom. As soon as the cherry blossoms bloom, the people gather in the parks and squares for hanami for flower viewing. This romance is intense but short-lived, lasting only one or two weeks.

Cherry blossoms have always been a tradition in Japan for over many years. These delicate flowers have come to symbolize the fleeting nature of beauty (and the beauty of fleetingness) in a poetic way. In Japan, as both the new school year and the year begin on April 1, sakura trees have come to symbolize a season of new beginnings that is truly something worth celebrating.

The best time to witness cherry blossoms in Japan is around the spring months. If you are going to Kyūshū in the south, then you should visit in March. Moreover, regular cherry blossoms fascinate the public. If you are visiting northward, usually crossing through the Kansai and Kantō area of Honshū then you should visit in late-March or early April.
